What a bunch of Posers…..

Early Bloomers.

Sometimes when the weather is dreary and your sweaters are looking tattered and you’re in a wardrobe slump, you search for any little item to incorporate into your chilly weather wardrobe without having to sacrifice a limb to frostbite. We have the answer. And the answer is floral.

Floral trousers, that is.

Who Wore What.

Patterned pants are ALL OVER the spring runways and floral skinnies are the perfect pop of color that will take you on a ride in the slushy snow all the way to sunshine town. That’s right. Sunshine town. Population: fashionistas.

Wear ’em high waisted with a nude top! Thats Not My Age

Throw on a breezy white blouse and a fun accent belt. (Is anyone else thinking leopard print or is that just me???) Pinterest.

Be prepared to see some floral variety in all shapes and sizes! Rag-Pony.

Feeling uber hipster and a wee bit ironic? Try rockin your floral with a cool band shirt or some super cool utility chic booties.  On It Like a Tramp On Chips.

Go glam with some strappy platforms and an elegant blouse. Glamour.

Or play with pastels with a sweeter-than-sugar sweater set. Doobie Tuesday.

We’re loving the dramatic black accents this season…Rubi Ilove.

“Spiders on Drugs”… Helmut Lang Pre-Fall 2012

Nicole and Michael Colovos tend to find inspiration for their Helmut Lang collections from little-known artists or obscure works, but their starting point for pre-fall just might be their strangest yet. “We have all these pictures of spiderwebs made by spiders on drugs,” Michael explained. The LSD spider apparently spins really intricate webs, while the pot spider’s creations have big holes in them. The caffeine spider’s is the most erratic, and that’s the one they settled on for their latest outing.

It turned up as a tone-on-tone design on skinny jeans and as a burnout motif on a delicate, featherweight sweater. In something of a surprise for the duo who prefer black both professionally and personally, it also appeared as a bold green, black, and white pattern on a leather-trim chiffon dress worn with matching leggings. There was more color where that came from in the form of a draped jersey dress in a brilliant lime green.

But the designers haven’t strayed so far from the contemporary brand’s roots. The snug leather jackets and sharp-shouldered blazers beloved by their customers are back; they refreshed the former with curved “kissing” seams on the back and the latter with stamped metal hook closures made by a local jewelry designer friend. (Nicole Phelps).

The other big news: The husband-and-wife team are launching a T-shirt line called Helmut that riffs on some of their favorite designs from the past; prices will start at about $95.

Our Favorite Looks from…Alice + Olivia Pre-Fall 2012

Every season, Alice + Olivia produces a lookbook with a mise-en-scène befitting the collection’s theme. Judging by an image of the famed Café de Flore as the backdrop, rose petals strewn about a wrought iron table, and the model styled with a beret (and occasionally clutching a book of poetry), it was no surprise when designer Stacey Bendet revealed her inspiration was the tried-and-true Parisian gamine.

Bendet explained pre-fall was about “a return to the pants,” and there were plenty here that spoke to the label’s playful boldness. A pair of red pebbled leather stovepipes will surely turn heads when paired with a tartan fringed blanket cape boasting a detachable fur collar. Flares popped up in navy velvet and floral corduroy and hit on the seventies trouser silhouette that’s been popular for the past year or so, but came across as a tad too retro. Bendet got the modern-vintage equation right with her graphic sweater dresses.

The designer frequently stresses how her clothes are “a collection of items to mix and match every which way. It really comes down to the way you style it.” Pieces like the relatively simple, burnt orange silk shirtdress (not a hint of gamine there sans beret) look versatile enough to be integrated into most women’s wardrobes. We All Need Equipment.

Today we thought we’d shed a little light on one of our favorite Fancy Pants brands, Equipment.

Christian Restoin launched the brand in 1975, giving menswear shirts a glam, feminine appeal and quickly became recognized for its refined tailoring, timelessness and signature double breasted pocket blouse. Plus, as one Fancy Pants patron recently reflected fondly that “it was the only blouse our mothers would allow us to wear because we refused to wear bras in the ’70s.”

Serge Azria re-launched Equipment in 2010,  retaining its sophisticated French minimalism while fusing it with laid-back California style. Androgynous silhouettes and discreet sexiness show the many facets of the Equipment woman: she is strong, chic, adventurous, sexy, and above all, classic.

Stars are ga-ga over Equipment. We can see why. It seems to add just the right amount of refinement to an outfit.

Kate Bosworth in the sleeveless signature blouse. Fab Sugar.

Leggy Lauren Conrad rockin the striped chiffon blouse from summer 2011. Pink Peonies and Cashmere Cardigans.

And right now, blogs are all atwitter about the Signature Slim Fit Star Signature blouse. It’s selling out EVERYWHERE (and we’ve got it in store at FP!).

Dyin’ To Try Tie Dye.

Tie-Dye. I want to say “it’s back” but was it ever really gone…  really? I mean, ask any head shop or organic food store patron and they’ll confirm its undeniable psychedelic presence throughout time. Tongue and Chic.

Nevertheless, it’s popping up all over spring runways and chic swirled pieces of luscious fabric are drizzling into the FP all the live long day.

So its time, Fancy Friends, to embrace your inner hippie. Let us show you how. Dude.

Winter blacks are the name of the game with this city gal. Our favorite thing about a perfect all black look is playing with texture, which keeps the solid color palate from looking too one dimensional. Elles Appelling Blog

Oh hayyyy, TWINSIES!

When you consider alll of the seasons of Fancy Pants options these to Fancy Gals have milling around their closet, the odds that they’d show up donning the same Elizabeth and James hanky-hem silk blouse from FOUR YEARS AGO seem slim to none.

“Young Women – you’re going to be old some day. Don’t sweat it. Every era…It builds character.”

Todays post is dedicated to mothers.

Mothers give us life.

Mothers give us love.

 Mothers give us style.

We had the pleasure of having three generations of Fancy gals in the store this week when Courtney’s lovely mother and grandmother paid a visit.

“Stop being a pill, mother” and “Ooohhhh you have to have this!” were echoed back and forth between them along with carefully placed giddy squeals of excitement when they found pieces that fit like a glove.

Ahhhh, head-to-toe in Fancy Pants! Check Grandma out in her Elizabeth and James blazer, A.L.C. crew neck striped topJ brand 11″ Merlot skinnies and Dolce Vita taupe knee highs! She’s killin’ it!

What a joy to see three such powerful women supporting each other and sharing their (obviously inherent) sense of style.

Fashion truly has no age limit!

…And on that note, we invite you to revel in this fantastically eloquent video from NOWNESS.
